New MPQC Council Roles
Role Profile: Chair of MPQC Council
Role Purpose
The Chair of the MPQC Council provides leadership to the Council, ensuring it delivers on its remit to support the mineral products sector with optimising competency through the MPQC work streams; Skills, Standards, Awards, Minerals Matter and Connect. The Chair acts as a key liaison between Council members, MPQC leadership and Board and external stakeholders, championing industry engagement, collaboration and member value.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Meeting Preparation and Facilitation
- Lead Council meetings, ensuring they are chaired effectively with inclusive participation, and alignment with MPQC’s strategic objectives.
- Guide the Council in shaping and reviewing its terms of reference, ensuring relevance, diversity, and responsiveness to industry needs.
- Oversee Council input into standards development, qualification reviews, and industry-wide initiatives including MP Connect and Minerals Matter.
- Facilitate clear communication of Council decisions and priorities to MPQC leadership and where relevant external bodies.
- Support the identification and onboarding of new Council members and ensure continuity of leadership and institutional knowledge.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Senior leadership experience within the mineral products or related sectors.
- Proven ability to effectively chair and facilitate meetings involving multiple stakeholders
- Strong understanding of vocational education, apprenticeships, and industry qualifications.
- Meeting management and facilitation
- Ability to engage, communicate, involve, generate debate and discussion and gain consensus on outcomes and actions

Terms of appointment
- Appointed for a 2 year term of office, with a potential extension to a maximum period of 3 years.
- This is a voluntary position.
Time Commitment
- Attending Board meetings annually to feedback outcomes of Council meetings.
- Quarterly Council meetings (in-person and virtual).
- Additional time for strategic forums, stakeholder engagement, and preparation.
Role Profilfe: Technical Education Pillar Lead
Role Purpose
This voluntary industry position, works alongside two other pillar leads (Future Careers and Standards and Assurance) to support industry with ensuring a safe, competent and sustainable current and future workforce. The technical education pillar lead is responsible for providing strategic input and oversight for industry training and development needs and the identification of suitable qualifications and training provision that align with Industry National Occupational Standards. The pillar lead will provide leadership with delivery supported through the MPQC team and industry task and finish groups.
Training Needs Analysis and Reporting
Review the current LMI survey, ensure it is fit for purpose and roll out to industry bi-annually
Collate data from MP Connect and the LMI survey, analyse training and development requirements, report on findings and make recommendations
Identify existing qualifications linked to Skills England Technical Education and devolved nations.
In response to any industry training needs identified, consider what existing training (industry or otherwise) could be used and communicate to industry accordngly
Strategic Planning and Delivery
Develop a strategic plan aimed at ‚‘filling the gaps‘, prioritise work streams and deliver
Utilise an evidence based approach to identify qualifications and training providers for industry that meet the National Occupational Standards.
Act as Trailblazer chair for apprenticeship standards
Work with stakeholders from industry and education to consider suitable options for qualifications and traiining.
Utilise personal network of contacts to form task and finish groups to assist with delivery of required actions
Career Mapping
Identify key industry entry roles, develop and communicate career pathways, utilising Minerals Matter to reach potential new entrants in education
Develop career pathways for common industry roles, identifying potential progression routes, the required qualifications and training, possible education amd training providers and other available resources and support (e.g. from trade associations and membership bodies)
Link with Skills England to identify & promote Industry occupations linked to Occupational Maps
Partnerships
Develop partnerships with education providers nationally to ensure adequate provision of training for industry (content and location ).
Communications and Engagement
Effectively engage with a wide group of stakeholders to understand industry needs and gain buy in and acfrive commitment to projects
Work with the Marcoms team at MPQC to effectively communicate activity relevant to the pillar lead work streams (e.g. through QMJ and Social Media)
Communicate progress against plans at meetings, including the MPQC Council Meetings
